With this exclamation, the Hanoverian mathematician Leibniz expressed his hope that numeric reconciliation could bring about peace; and if this did not help, he thought, an independent third party could facilitate reconciliation. With this idea, in the 16th century, the independent auditor was born.
FWS believes that number-based communication between different parts of the world can contribute to mutual understanding – and this is what we do now in and between 57 countries of the world.
FWS sees audit and accounting at the interface between natural and social science. In our understanding accounting has both an oral and a written component. We look at the numbers, but also at the organisational structures and personal relations behind the numbers. Our approach is dialogue-oriented. We understand figures as a reflection of human relations.
